
Keeping Your Rinse-Cycle IR Lamps Safe and Dry
Let’s be honest: water and electricity are a nightmare pairing. When you’re running IR lamps in a rinse-dry stage, you’ve got steam and spray flying everywhere. If that moisture finds its way into a heating element, you aren’t just looking at a dead bulb—you’re looking at tripped breakers or, even worse, a safety hazard for your team. We build our lamps specifically to handle that chaos.
Why we test every single tube
Some companies just test a few samples from a batch and hope for the best. We don’t do that. Every single tube we make goes through a high-voltage “hi-pot” test and an insulation check before it ever leaves the factory. We basically blast the lamp with a voltage much higher than what it’ll see in your shop. Why? Because we want to make sure the quartz seals and insulators can take a beating. Here’s the thing: a microscopic leak in a seal is an open invitation for moisture. Once water gets inside, the filament burns out fast. Or, even scarier, the electricity leaks out and turns your machine’s chassis into a live wire. By checking the insulation resistance, we make sure the power stays exactly where it belongs—inside the filament.
Dealing with the wet stuff
Making a lamp “waterproof” isn’t just about the glass. The real battle is where the wire meets the quartz. That’s the weak point. We use specialized seals at the end caps to keep the moisture out and the heat in. But remember, the lamp is only half the battle. You’ve got to match your power supply to the lamp’s wattage and voltage. If you’re using high-wattage tubes for that instant flash-dry effect, just keep in mind they put a lot more stress on your wiring. Make sure your contactors can handle that initial surge of power when they kick on.
A few things to watch out for
Now, our testing is rigorous, but these lamps aren’t invincible. If you crank down the mounting brackets too tight or use clips that don’t quite fit, you’re creating stress points in the glass. Over time, those tiny cracks let the moisture bypass all our factory seals. Keep an eye on your mounts. If they’re vibrating, they’re wearing down the quartz. A little bit of attention during installation goes a long way in keeping your line running smoothly.
