When you’re picking out an infrared heater for the bathroom, it’s tempting to just go for the most powerful one on the shelf. But here’s the thing: more power doesn’t always mean more comfort. It’s really just about matching the heat to the size of your room so you aren’t throwing money away on your electric bill. Getting the size right If you’ve got a tiny powder room—something under 4m²—a 250W to 400W shortwave lamp is plenty. These things kick in instantly. If you go overboard in a space that small, you’ll feel like you’re standing in an oven, and you might even trip your breaker. Not a great way to start the morning. For a medium-sized bathroom (around 4m² to 8m²), you’ll want to bump that up to 600W or 800W. And for the big master baths? You can either go with one heavy-hitting 1200W array or spread the warmth around with a few 800W lamps. Remember, infrared doesn’t actually heat the air; it heats whatever it touches. You just need enough coverage so that the spot where you’re actually standing feels cozy. Water and heat: The safety bit Since you’re putting this in a room full of steam and splashes, the IP rating is a big deal.
